Request for Funding of Friends of Nelson Haven and Tasman Bay

The Society is taking a prominent role in a number of major appeal hearings in the Environment Court in 2002. Based on our experience with previous Court cases, our estimate for the realistic costs for appeal cases would be between NZ$90.00,- to NZ$100.000,-

The Society is fortunate being able to call upon a number of expert witnesses in various fields like tourism, marine biology, ornithology, navigation, landscape architecture and legal Council. Assistance is often provided pro bono or with heavily reduced costs, but travel expenses and incidentals arise.

The Society estimates that it needs to raise NZ$25.000,- to deal with appeal hearings over the next coming year.

We would like to ask you to support us in our work in securing a balanced development of the coastline. The sustainable use of this resource will not only guarantee the ecological values in our area but will also create a diverse range of opportunities for the people living here. The Society is making an urgent appeal for funding to finish its work in promoting sustainable use of our coastal environment. We would be happy to provide additional information such as references and letters of support, auditors report and Chairman’s Report and copies of various cases presented by our Society.
